Viljami Poikonen kertoo kuinka Plokin Ukkojen kävi viikon takaisessa pelissä Kokkolan Tiikereitä vastaan:
Sunnuntaina 14.1. pääsimme avaamaan vuoden myös kotipelien osalta, kun Kokkolan Tiikereiden nuorekas joukkue saapui vieraaksemme Pihtipudas-saliin. Tällä kertaa ukkoja oli rivistössä jopa ihan mukavasti, ainakin viikon takaiseen verrattuna.
Viljami Poikonen shares how the game against Kokkolan Tiikerit went for Ploki’s Ukot last week:
“On Sunday, 14.1. we had the opportunity to kick off the year with home games as well when the youthful team of Kokkolan Tiikerit visited our Pihtipudas hall as guests. This time, there were quite a few guys in our lineup, at least compared to last week.
The first set began with Ploki in a strong command, leading by an impressive 6-0. As the set progressed, Tiikerit also started to rev up their game, led by their outside hitter Atte Leppälä (8 points in the first set), but our lead persisted throughout the set. The first set ended in favor of Ploki with a score of 25-22.
In the second set, our good performance continued, and execution was consistently solid in all aspects of the game. The serving, which had been problematic at times this season, remained well-controlled, putting pressure on the opponent’s reception and easing our block-defense. The second set also went to Ploki with a score of 25-20.
The visitors seemingly decided during the long break that the situation couldn’t continue the same way. The third set proceeded in a more evenly matched manner, with the lead changing hands several times. Our game was marked by an increase in unforced errors. The score was still tied at 21-21, from which Tiikerit secured the set victory with a strong finish, 21-25.
The beginning of the fourth set was close, but around the middle of the set, Tiikerit pulled ahead to a 10-18 lead. Despite the support from the home crowd, the team’s joy in playing was noticeably absent, and communication on the field was disappointingly limited. Errors occurred here and there, and a proper comeback was never initiated. The set ended with a score of 17-25 in favor of Tiikerit, setting the stage for the fifth set.
Some fighting spirit was somehow dug up for the fifth and deciding set, and the sides were switched with Ploki leading 8-7. However, control inevitably shifted to the visitors. With our own court defense still struggling, the deciding points went to Tiikerit, concluding the set 12-15 and the whole game 2-3. The best players were selected as Viljami Poikonen from Ploki and Niko Kaustinen, the setter, from Tiikerit.
